Would you like to be a STAR Mentor?
The mentor's primary duty will be to help walk-in and scheduled students to use the available hardware and software needed to complete multimedia projects. Mentors must have an expertise in a particular area listed below, or in applicable software packages, and are expected to develop other skills necessary to assist our clientele. On a routine basis, the mentor will perform basic lab maintenance duties, including cleaning computers, connecting peripherals, performing virus and operating systems checks, and helping staff members with other STAR projects.

Per hour pay rates are dependent on the specific skills of the mentor. STAR focuses on five technological areas:

  • Multimedia applications
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Web Design and Creation
  • Computer Presentation Skills
  • Video Skills (analog and digital).

We encourage cross training by offering the following pay structure:

  • Mentors able to demonstrate two of the above skill sets start at $7.50 per hour.
  • Mentors able to demonstrate three of the above skill sets may receive $8.50 per hour.
  • Mentors able to demonstrate four of the above skill sets may receive $9.50 per hour.

Mentors are also hired (at the same pay rate) to teach workshops in their content areas in START. Teaching mentors help in the development of written materials which accompany the hands-on workshops.

To apply, download the ITU Employment Application below and submit it with a resumé (on paper) to Buz Grover, STARLab Manager.
