    • Video cameras may be checked out through STAR. To ensure that you will have access to a camera, make sure that you call the front desk to reserve a camera (993-8990). To check out a camera you must have a current George Mason ID.

    • Maximum checkout time is 6 hours per day. Cameras may be checked out overnight after 5:00 PM. All overnight checkouts must be returned when STAR opens the next day.

    • If you return equipment late three times your equipment checkout privileges will be suspended for the rest of the semester.

  2. Digital editing stations:
To use either Premiere or the Cube you must archive your data.
    • The Premier stations use Syjet drives. Syquest disks have the capacity to store 1.5 gigabytes of data.

    • The Cube utilizes a DLT 4000 tape drive. The tapes for this drive can hold up to 35 gigabytes of data.

Syquest disks are available at the campus computer store, and DLT tapes can be purchases here at STAR. Syquest run about 65 dollars and DLT tapes are 100 dollars. If you do not archive your media it will be erased from the hard drives. Use of the Cube is limited. Digital edit stations can be reserved for a maximum of 3 hours.

  3. Copyright Policy: Do not violate copyright and "Fair Use" laws. You may be required to contact copyright holders to get permission to use their copyrighted material. Remember, mere ownership of a tape doesn not in itself give the owner the right to make copies. For more information, please check the following: DoIT Copyright Basics or GMU Copyright Information

*No food or drink is permitted at any of the editing stations*
