User-Centered Design:
What you put on your personal web site is, of course, up to you. Anything goes. But if you are producing a web site which is supposed to provide information delivery to an audience, it's a good idea to observe
Some Rules of Thumb
- Think SMALL--keep graphics in small sizes to shorten download time.
- Don't use patterned backgrounds; be cautious of using colored backgrounds
- Don't use yellow text. Ever.
- Keep text colors to a minimum to avoid chaos
- 50-60k is the outside size for a page
- Plan around 800 X 600 resolution; if possible, shorten line lengths for readability.
- Try to limit the need for scrolling; Make sure the most important info appears at the top of the page
- Use approximately 50% of normal verbiage for web pages. If you have large amounts of text, convert to .pdf and provide for download.
