Welcome to STAR Center.
The Student Technology Assistance and Resource Center was designed to provide technology support to students for class and other work requiring technology tools.

STAR is a peer-mentored work space, where students with multimedia projects can use updated software and hardware to meet assigned tasks, and work on personal endeavors involving multimedia production, graphic imaging, video, desktop publishing, presentations and web authoring. For best results, faculty and STAR staff should work together from the planning stages through syllabus and due dates, so that resources can be allocated appropriately, and activities provided on time.

STAR staff is also available for In-Class Visits, Software demonstrations, lab tours and workshops.
We require 2 weeks notice of your need for an in-class event. And we greatly recommend that you, the faculty member, attend the scheduled event. We will be there to support your students; it is very important that you be there to support us. For more information and to order support activities, visit In Class Activities Request   (NOTE: You may download the request as a Portable Document File with Adobe Acrobat if necessary; fill it out and bring or send it to the STAR Center, 229 Johnson Center.) (To download as PDF document)

For your students:

Some quick principles of etiquette for using STAR technology services:
  • Be polite to the staff. They are overworked, underpaid, and way under appreciated. People giving assistance invariably respond better to positive attitudes. A little prior reading or preparation can make it much easier for them to help you.

  • Respect the facilities. Don't make messes, fiddle around with computer directories, loudly distract other people from their work or mistreat the technology. It is here for all of us to use and learn with, and that only happens if we all treat it with respect.

  • Try to maximize use of slow traffic periods. Try earlier in the morning, earlier in the semester, and even some mid-day slack periods to reduce your own frustration and make use of the facility more efficient. Don't wait till the day your project is due!

  • Respect the needs of other students. Work stations may be in high demand during certain times, and students may be required to observe time limits if others are waiting.
